Moving involves inherent risks, which is why we offer protection coverage and maintain clear policies about our services. Understanding your coverage options and our terms helps ensure your move proceeds smoothly without surprises. We’ve outlined everything clearly below so you know exactly what to expect when you choose Firefighters Move U.

Your Insurance Coverage Options

We offer two levels of protection for your belongings during the moving process. You can choose the coverage that best fits your needs and comfort level.

Released Value Protection

This basic coverage is included at no additional charge with every move. Under released value protection, items are covered at $0.60 per pound regardless of their actual value.

For example, if a 50-pound item is damaged, the maximum liability would be $30 (50 pounds × $0.60 per pound). While this provides basic coverage, it may not reflect the full replacement value of your belongings.

Full Value Protection

For more comprehensive coverage, we offer full value protection for $100 per truck load. Under this coverage, if any item is lost, destroyed, or damaged while in our custody, we will at our discretion:

  • Repair the item
  • Replace it with a similar item
  • Provide a cash settlement for the repair cost or current market replacement value

This option provides significantly more protection for your belongings and gives you greater peace of mind during your move.

Understanding Our Service Terms

We believe in transparency from the start, which is why we clearly outline what our services include and what responsibilities remain with you as the customer. These terms help ensure both parties understand expectations and avoid misunderstandings.

Your Responsibilities

To ensure a smooth moving process, customers should have all items packed and sealed in boxes before our crew arrives. Large furniture should be confirmed in advance to be safely removable from your dwelling without further disassembly.

Our standard moving service focuses on loading, transporting, and unloading your belongings. We are not required to pack unboxed items, perform cleaning services, dispose of trash, or stage items at your destination. If you need help with packing, we offer separate professional packing services that can be arranged in advance.

Payment Terms

We accept cash, credit cards, and business checks. Personal checks require approval. Payment is due in full upon completion of your move unless alternative terms are arranged in advance. There is a 3% processing fee for debit and credit card payments, and a $30 fee applies to any returned checks.

Appliances and Electronics

Our crew may assist with connecting or disconnecting washers and dryers at their discretion, but we are not responsible for any plumbing, electrical, or water damage associated with appliance hookups.

Electronics should be packed in their original packaging when possible. Items like televisions, computer monitors, and stereo systems are fragile and require proper packing to prevent damage during transport. While our crew may help mount or dismount televisions, proper packaging protects these valuable items.

Furniture Considerations

Some items require special attention due to their nature. Particle board furniture and plants are particularly fragile. Sleep Number beds should be disassembled and reassembled by the owner, though our crew can assist if requested. We do not disassemble or assemble pool tables.

Pianos may require tuning after moving due to the change in environment and handling—this is normal and we are not liable for tuning costs.

High-Value Items

We recommend keeping money, jewelry, sensitive documents, and other high-value items separate and transporting them yourself. This protects your most valuable possessions and gives you direct control over their security.

Property Protection Options

We use protective equipment like door protection, moving blankets, shrink wrap, and bands to safeguard your belongings and property during the moving process. These protections add time to the move but significantly reduce the probability of damage.

Customers may opt out of these protections to speed up the process and reduce costs, but doing so increases the risk of damage. By opting out, you waive the right to file damage claims on items that would have been protected.

Working Conditions

Our crew works hard to minimize tracking dirt and soil into your property, but some tracking may be inevitable given the nature of moving work. We do not drive trucks on grass, sidewalks, patios, or surfaces not designed for vehicle travel to avoid property damage.

Due to safety risks, we do not operate in attics or crawl spaces. Any operations in these areas requested by the customer are at the customer’s risk.
