Bigger, slower, and usually more gear than first-time movers expect. Apartment-to-apartment moves tend to be compact – one truck, two or three hours, done. A move from a UK-area apartment into a Brigadoon house usually involves a smaller amount of existing furniture going into a much larger space, which changes the logistics in ways that matter: you’ll have fewer pieces to load, but more distance between rooms at the new place, and often a longer walk from where the truck parks to the front door. We scale the crew and truck accordingly, and we’ll tell you on the quote call whether you actually need the larger crew or not – no upsell if the job doesn’t warrant it.
A little, and we plan for it. Split-levels usually mean two half-flights of stairs right off the front door – one up to the main living area, one down to a den or bedrooms – plus often a third flight down to a basement. That’s a lot of direction changes for a sectional, a mattress, or a heavy dresser. Our crew handles split-levels by disassembling what can come apart in the truck or driveway rather than wrestling it through a turn that wasn’t designed for it. We also protect the half-flight landings with pads because those corners take the most wear on moving day.
Tell us as soon as you know. Closing delays happen – especially on first-home purchases – and we’d rather reschedule than charge you for a rescheduled move you weren’t expecting. Depending on how much notice we have, we can usually push your move by a day or two without a fee, or help you bridge the gap if you need to load the truck from your old place and keep things stored briefly. If you’re coordinating a tight timeline between an apartment lease end and a house closing, mention it on the quote call and we’ll build flexibility into the booking from the start.
Usually yes, but we size the truck to the job. Most Brigadoon homes sit on quarter-acre lots with driveways that fit a sedan comfortably and a moving truck with a little patience. For a standard single-family home, our 20-foot truck handles the driveway without issue. For larger loads that need the 26-footer, the driver often positions the truck on the street and uses dollies from the driveway – which works fine on most of Brigadoon’s residential streets. If your specific address has tight tree coverage, a short driveway, or restricted street parking, flag it when we quote so we can plan the approach.
Early-morning starts are the sweet spot. Nicholasville Road backs up through the Fayette Mall corridor twice a day – roughly 7:30-9:00 a.m. heading north and 4:30-6:30 p.m. heading south – and if the truck route has to cross Nicholasville during those windows, you lose time you don’t get back. We generally recommend an 8:00 a.m. start for Brigadoon moves, which puts the loading phase before the worst of morning traffic and gets the truck into position for the unload before the evening crunch. Weekend moves are more flexible since the commute patterns disappear, but Saturday mornings near Fayette Mall can still get busy by mid-morning.
